AI in Action: From Message to Done

When ChatGPT first appeared, people seemed to split into three camps.
Some saw AI as a magic pill that could do everything. Others feared it would replace entire teams. And the third group did not believe it could do anything useful at all.

For a while, everyone tried to put AI into every product, process, and pitch deck. But I think the hype is finally settling. People have seen what works, what does not, and where AI creates more work instead of removing it.
For wineries, that distinction matters.

Wine is a personal business. Hospitality and relationships matter. People want to buy from people. So the question has always been whether AI can support that personal touch—or destroy it.
Our answer is becoming clearer.

AI should handle moments when the customer needs a fast result, not a long conversation. Moving a shipment, adding birthday points, checking an order, or changing a reservation should take seconds.
When a customer needs advice, reassurance, or simply wants to speak with someone at the winery, WineSpot brings in the team.
That is what this month’s update is about: real customer requests moving from message to resolution with less friction.

What We Shipped This Month: Turning “Simple” Emails Into Completed Work

Customers often email because they need the winery to do something. Each request looks small, but during a club release, dozens of them quickly become hours of work.

This month, we expanded the number of requests WineSpot can complete directly from the original email.

Delay a shipment

After a club-release announcement, the inbox fills with messages like:

“I’ll be out of town when my wine ships. Can you move it to the 18th?”

During one recent release, our first winery client received 20–30 emails per day. Roughly half were shipment-delay requests.
WineSpot now finds the customer and shipment in Commerce7, checks the cutoff date and shipping status, and applies the winery’s shipping calendar. If the requested date is a weekend, holiday, or non-shipping day, it adjusts it according to the winery’s rules.
The shipment is updated, the customer receives confirmation in the same email thread, and the shipping department can be notified automatically..

Order updates without changing channels

If your winery runs a loyalty program in Commerce7, this one pays for itself. Take a common case at Scott Harvey Wines: birthday emails offer guests a gift in the tasting room — or a batch of loyalty points if they can't make it in. Every week a handful of guests email to claim the points, and each one used to mean the same manual chore: open a ticket, find the guest in Commerce7, credit the points, write back. Ten to fifteen minutes, every time.

Now the agent handles it end to end. It reads the email, recognizes the intent, finds and validates the guest's Commerce7 account, confirms they're within the birthday window, credits the points, and logs it in Customer Notes and Transaction Notes — so tasting-room staff can see the gift was already given and never hand it out twice.

Then it emails the guest back in your tone of voice, confirming the points and including a short note on where those points can be used — so the guest knows exactly how to redeem them. The guest gets a resolution in under a minute; your team gets those 10–15 minutes back — across email, chat, and the phone..

Reservation changes without changing channels

WineSpot can now update existing reservations through email and voicemail.

This is especially useful for common voicemail requests:
“We’re running 15 minutes late.”
“There will be four of us instead of three.”
“We won’t be able to come. Could you cancel it?”

WineSpot identifies the customer by phone number or email, finds the reservation in Commerce7, and checks whether the change is possible. It can update the party size, move the reservation to an available time, or cancel it.

Customers who write by email receive a branded email confirmation. Those who call receive confirmation by SMS. The request is completed without moving them into another channel..

Customer history inside Commerce7

WineSpot already allowed winery teams to write a Customer Note and add it to Commerce7 directly from the platform. That option remains available.

Now, following a winery request, WineSpot also creates a note automatically after every completed interaction with an identified customer.

The note records:
  • What the customer asked or what problem they had
  • What answer, resolution, or completed action they received
  • Who handled it: a specific staff account or WineSpot AI

Each interaction creates a new note. Over time, the customer’s Commerce7 profile builds a clear history of what they needed, what was done, and who handled it.
When the customer contacts the winery again, the team can quickly see the context of previous interactions directly inside Commerce7.

Recognized when the website chat opens

If someone is already logged into the winery’s Commerce7 website, WineSpot now recognizes them automatically when they open the chat widget.

There is no second login or verification code. WineSpot already has the relevant account context, including club membership, shipments, and orders.

The customer can immediately ask a question or request an account change.

What all of this looks like inside a real winery

Our first case study with Scott Harvey Wines shows the impact.

From May 17 through August 31, WineSpot handled 462 customer conversations across email, website chat, and voicemail. AI resolved 62% without staff involvement.

Website chat reached 93% automation: AI handled 164 of 176 conversations. Before WineSpot added an AI layer to the winery’s SMS chat widget, all 176 would have required the team. Now only 12 did.

Another 43% of conversations arrived after hours, and AI resolved 71% before the team returned.

Customers also completed 73 self-service actions, including checking orders and managing club shipments.

Email and voicemail reached 42% and 46% automation. Many new workflows launched only in the final weeks, so these numbers are just the starting point.

What’s coming over the next two weeks

Two conversational workflows are coming to WineSpot chat.

Customers will be able to book a reservation directly in the conversation. WineSpot will collect the details, check Commerce7 availability, create the reservation, and confirm it without sending them to another page.

We are also adding a cancellation and skip-shipment retention flow. WineSpot will understand the reason and offer relevant alternatives, such as pausing the membership or delaying the shipment.

If the customer still wants to proceed, WineSpot will complete their choice. After a cancellation, it will send a warm, winery-branded email letting them know they can rejoin at any time.

These actions already exist through WineSpot’s self-service experience and other channels. This update adds a conversational way to complete them in chat.

The direction is simple: faster results for customers, more time for winery teams, and personal attention where it matters.

Which of these customer requests takes the most time for your winery team today?
